TV Show Revivals

Since it's all about those revivals, let's keep up with the trending topic. There are even more TV shows that are being given new life, and I consider them true classics. I'm not sure what that says for the state of network television. Are writers running out of ideas and unable to come up with new plots and pilots? Or do they truly feel that past shows still have more to tell? I would love to be a writer on a TV show. Or a creator. There are so many ideas brimming constantly in my head. Some ideas have already been taken since so gotta scrap those.

Though it's hard to get a straight answer out of anyone regarding this, I'm still very excited to hear that Twin Peaks will come back! The specifics are about as mysterious as the show. It's all so unclear. How many episodes? When will it premiere? Who is going to be there? I've seen a few pictures of Kyle filming as Agent Cooper. Love him. Just have him in his suit eating pie and drinking coffee. As of now, they have gotten through more than half of the filming. And it's not a reboot or a remake but a continuation of the series. Let's all hope that David Lynch doesn't throw another tantrum, and we will actually maybe get to see this come to fruition. He already threw a fit regarding the budget and said the show wasn't going to happen and that he quit. Basically giving us all mini heart attacks. Then all the actors of the show came together, said they weren't going to do the revival unless David was a part of it. Negotiations were kept quiet but they must have made him happy because he's back on set. It's sad that the Log Lady actress passed away. I would have gotten a kick out of seeing her again with that log.

I grew up watching Tales from the Crypt. I was very young and had to sneak downstairs late at night to catch up on my horror obsession. Just heard that M. Night Shymalan is joining with TNT to reboot the series. TNT, normally a network to find off beat comedy/drama usually involving some type of law enforcement, is creating a horror block. So far only the rebooted Tales from the Crypt is a part of this horror block, but TNT will be announcing what else will be included soon. Past episodes of Tales from the Crypt will be remade as well as original new plots being created. This may begin sometime in the fall. I have mixed feelings. TNT seems like an unusual place to find horror, especially the kind of horror that Tales from the Crypt brings to the table. I would expect NBC or FX as a better fit. And I don't see M. Night's vision of horror being on the same level as Tales from the Crypt either. I see M. Night's horror as more quiet drama, sadness, and suspense, but I see Tales from the Crypt as being shock value and in your face with the right amount of cheese mixed with the right amount of crazy. I of course will be tuning in when it premieres but I remain skeptical. Also this may happen without the cryptkeeper?? Surely not!

And finally, Westworld!! The original movie written by Michael Crichton was genius, and now it's being made into a TV show for HBO. Westerns and robots. What a mix. And only the creative mind of Michael Crichton could have made it work. The plot is a future theme park with robots and there are different worlds inside the park. Westworld deals with robots in cowboy gear. The fun part? The robots become homicidal and go after every human in the park. I'm guessing that this plot will remain intact for the TV show. I can't wait to see Anthony Hopkins back on my TV screen, and I like that J. J. Abrams is a producer. No concrete release date either but there are teasier trailers out there on the Internet. I don't really have an opinion about this airing on HBO but I know there's going to be a lot of pointless sex to deal with. I really liked The Simpsons' parody Itchy and Scratchy Land, which was a reference to Westworld.

It's difficult to project a timeline for this story since it was originally written as a movie script. When you turn a movie script into a TV series, there's a lot of filler that needs to be written. Story lines may expand for characters and you wonder, would the writer of the original script be happy with the choices made? Is that what he/she intended for that character? I will always be grateful to Michael Crichton for writing such great novels, like Jurassic Park, Micro, Sphere, etc. I've basically loved every book I've read of his. However to make his stories come to life in the correct way, you need to have the right set of circumstances. Jurassic Park the movie was a phenomenal success, due to Steven Spielberg directing, the fantastically chosen cast, the music composition, the screenwriting and adaptation of the book, and the special effects department who created the gorgeous animatronic dinosaurs. Will lightning strike twice? To be continued . . .
